Mentoring Programs
-
Legacy MENtoring for males ages 14 to 21
-
Sistah's Keepers for females ages 14 to 21
Our mandatory mentoring programs are designed for personal growth and are available on a weekly time schedule.
Mentors are recruited and undergo a security and clearance check.
Mentoring happens at no more than a 1/3 ratio (1 mentor to 3 youth)
Young adult mentors, ages 19 to21, are developed to become mentors as a part of SHORE's "Reaching Back" program.
The Directors have designed these programs to be gender specific and to challenge our youth in the areas of faith, education, technology, relationships, sexuality, health care, diversity, entrepeneurship and others.
Youth also enjoy access to a safe and private environment with weekly activities, field trips, yearly retreats, gatherings and other fun community activities.
Orientation Hours
All youth involved in the project are required to complete eight (8) orientation hours.
Youth complete ongoing intense job readiness training throughout the course of their contract. These trainings are conducted on the Intern/Entrepreneurship sites and by career and business professionals.
These trainings contribute to the projects certificate of completions authenticity. These hours must be completed before an internship is assigned.
Service Hours
All youth involved in the project must complete fifteen (15) hours of service in the community.
Youth serve the community by keeping the community clean and assisting local business owners with small task, all under the supervision of an approved (Act 33 & 34 clearances) and appointed community leader.
Required service hours must be completed before an internship is assigned.
Community Intern/Entrepreneurships
Only 10 youth ages 14 to 18 are assigned an internship position within the community under the financial employment umbrella at any given time. The project takes up to 50 youth per year.
All sites have been pre-approved though and interview process, Act 33 & 34 clearances and a mentoring standard set by The SHORE Project’s staff.

Contracts
Youth are required to sign a contract with the CHRR before the community internship can begin. Youth are contracted to meet all requirements listed as a part of the mentoring programs, orientation and service hours. Youth cannot begin Intern/Entrepreneurships programs until all requirements have been met.
-
Contract length
Youth are contracted and paid to work at an approved community internship site for a total of ten (10) weeks.
Certificate of Completion
Once youth have completed the entire program and internship, they are invited with their families to participate in The SHORE Project's certificate of completion ceremony.
Our certificates are a symbol of hard work and dedication to self and community for each youth to display and use as a reference in future job searches.
Job Referrals and Placement
Although, positions are not guaranteed, our Community Human Resource Recruiter (CHRR) is committed to networking and seeking businesses in the community that will make a committment to hire our youth at their completion of the program.
Ongoing Program Support
If an employment position is found through The SHORE Project, we are committed to stand behind the youth of the program by following up with their employer. Our youth will continue to have access to our program site, the CHRR and his or her personal mentor.
